Some questions we have been asked so far …..

Which church are you from?

We are from a number of different churches in Poole, united in our relationship with Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Saviour.

Do you only speak to or help Christians?

We help anyone who needs it, from someone who may have an injury or illness whilst out, to looking out for the homeless and the youth, speaking to the elderly and the lonely no matter what race or religion they are. We are non-judgmental and there are no barriers of faith or situation.

Do the police know what you are doing?

We are doing it with the support of the local police and local authority, to be a calming support for local people, to help the elderly, to make contact with the homeless and support the youth so that we can add to the community feel of the town in a caring way. As a result, Poole Town Pastors was formed in partnership with Faithworks Wessex and the Neighbourhood Police and the Safer Communities Team.

Do you go out at night?

Poole does not at present have much of a night time economy, no clubs and few pubs. The police have identified Saturday afternoons as sometimes being a difficult time on the streets, just as the shops and stalls are beginning to close and people are making their way home.

What do you carry in your bags?

We are all trained first aiders so we carry a basic first aid kit, hot and cold drinks depending on the season; emergency contact numbers for help for the homeless and the youth; information on a number of topics such as food available for the homeless; local agencies in social and health care and a small dustpan and brush to clear up any broken glass.

Will you pray for me?

We are always willing and love to pray for people – its power can never be underestimated.
